You could say they're the organizations who have loooooots of money, so they get to decide things like that so more people would spend more money on certain days!

Capitalism is, but humans still decide to go with this system. Maybe because it makes them happy? In the end, it's not my place to judge.

[ rafal shakes his head with a sigh. ]

The humans here are more complex than I'm used to. Inventing things simply to make life harder for themselves.

And their lives are so short to begin with.

Perhaps, but there must be a reason why it exists.

It doesn't matter how long their lives are, it's all about how fulfilling that life can be!

[ that's fine. rafal inclines his head as he heads to the kitchen. ]

What sort of desserts do you like?

That's hard. I like a lot of them, especially desserts I have never heard of before.

[He does snap his fingers a second later. Eureka!]

How about that lollipop you were holding in that picture?

[ he nods and heads into the kitchen. when he's back, he has two lollypops. ]

One has the amount of sugar I prefer. The other is suited to your tastes.

[ he points them out. ]

You can have both.

[Ryoji certainly doesn't, in which how happily puts them into his used-to-be-empty stash. His first candy haul, and it's from Rafal! How delightful!]

I'll eat yours once we're done, I don't want to keep you waiting. Oh, and uh. In case your amount of sugar does kill me.

Certainly not. I enjoy making sweets and I'm quite competent at it.

[ possibly one of the few skills he will actually boast about without censuring himself. at ryoji's statement, he smirks. ]

It has never caused death. In my experience.

Then all the more reason to look forward to it!

[As if Ryoji hasn't been enthusiastic enough. Rafal's smirk is infectious, especially when Ryoji doesn't get to see him this excited that often.]

Alright - I've seen a couple of locals trick or treating a few blocks down. Wanna try there first?

[They have been pretty hostile to the Chosen recently, but hopefully there's still an individual or two willing to give them candy?]

Yes, it is time.

[ time to collect candy. he can't believe such a holiday exists. he must bring it back to elyos somehow. if only so that he can maintain a candy hoard for himself. ]

What is the custom when we collect the candy?

First thing we have to ring the bell, and then we say very loudly: "Trick or treat!"

[He puts out his empty basket for emphasis.]

And then that's the part where they give you candy! If you don't, you're supposed to "trick" them, but I'm not sure what exactly that entails.

I could perform a trick. Become a dragon or resurrect some hell hound to terrify the people. Surely those count?

[ rafal may have an odd sense of . . . humour. ]

Wait, wait, not that kind of trick! It's supposed to be just a prank, not something genuinely terrifying!

[Still, one of those ideas isn't exactly the worst -]

....Being able to see a dragon might be cool though. We can always go with that.

I thought this holiday was all about terror?

[ isn't that the point of the costumes? oh well. it's not like he misses the days when he struck fear in the hearts of others. ]

It is, but it's like the difference between actual disaster and watching a horror movie! People just want to pretend they're afraid, not actually be afraid!

[It doesn't make that much sense to Ryoji, now that he's spelled it out like that, but he doesn't think a holiday where actively hurting someone would be something you want.]

And of course dragons are clue! They're large and awesome and breathe stuff! You might not realize it, Rafal-san, but I think your dragon form would be a hit amongst the kids.

[ rafal frowns. he has heard that from a few people around here, but it's still confusing to him. dragons are revered or feared. there is no in between in his experience. ]

Very well. I will take your word for it. Why don't you pick the first house and we shall see how it goes?
